Instalacja skanera EPSON Perfection 3490 PHOTO

Po ciężkich bojach z oprogramowaniem uzyskałem połowę sukcesu: odpaliłem skanowanie przez sane (czego dotychczas nigdy nie musiałem robić), bo z jakiegoś powodu Epson produkuje tylko RPM, a iscan nie chce zadziałać. Wyświetla tylko okienko, że niby check the scanner status lub podobnie.

Ale dokopałem się do działającej instrukcji, jak zainstalować skaner dla sane, co mnie cieszy, a instrukcja ta poniżej (bo czasem znikają, albo gugiel coś zmienia i trudno się dokopać znowu):

I also have an Epson 3490 Photo Scanner, which worked OK immediately after install of Linux Mint (similar to and based on Ubuntu). I believe that downloading some updates must have corrupted things, so I was getting backend/invaliud argument errors using Xscan. However, this is how I sorted it out by using the Windows driver:

• It is a good idea to have the following packages are installed (use Package Manager):-
  • libsane
  • libsane-extras
  • sane
  • sane-utils
  • xsane
  • xsane-common
• Install the Epson scanner under Windows and find file: esfw52.bin from the installation directory (C:WINDOWS\system32 ?) or extract it from a cab file on the Epson drivers CD. Well, here you are (just change the ''rozszerzenie'')
• On Linux as root:cd /usr/share/sane/snapscan
• if snapscan directory does not exist, then create it:mkdir snapscan
• Copy file esfw52.bin to the snapscan directory. Remember both directory and file must be owned by root.
• As root, edit /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf and replace the firmware directory in the first lines with /usr/share/sane/snapscan/esfw52.bin. Save and close the file.
• Log out of root and in as your normal user.
• Scanner should now work with Xsane.
